I was browsing MSN celebrity news when I saw this picture. This honest statement prompted me to post on an issue I have been bothered by for years - tanning. I've always been a fan of Girls Aloud and particularly love the way Nicola has slowly embraced her pale skin. She has spoken about how in the early days of Girls Aloud she 'always associated being tanned with being beautiful' and was known for wearing tan two shades darker than her natural skin colour, as these pictures below demonstrate.
I have nothing against tanning, or people who prefer to be tanned, what I feel strongly about is the feeling that you have to be tanned to be attractive. More people (boys and girls) need to embrace their natural skin colour, there is nothing wrong with being pale!
The pressure to be tanned has led people to use sunbeds 6-7 times a week and some people even inject tanning -aid drugs. The dangers of skin cancer (the most common cancer in under 35s in the UK) needs to continually be made aware to people.
